Teeth whitening is a modern treatment which can help you get brighter and more visually appealing teeth very simply and quickly. Teeth whitening treatments are an indispensable part of aesthetic dentistry. If you are satisfied with how your teeth look, go a step further and whiten your teeth with an in-office whitening for best results.

What makes you the ideal candidate for teeth whitening?

The best candidates for professional teeth whitening have healthy teeth without fillings or restorations and healthy gum tissues. Before the whitening treatment takes place, it is necessary to remove plaque buildup, stains and repair all damages before the procedure. The teeth whitening is not going to whiten the existing fillings and crowns, or damage the tooth enamel. However, it is necessary for you to consult your dentist on this matter before the procedure.

Why aren't my teeth white anymore?

Teeth can change their color and cause stains due to many factors. The causes can be intrinsic (genetics, changes occurring during the formation of hard dental tissues, i.e. tooth development, mainly under the influence of medications), and extrinsic (lifestyle, dark-colored food and drinks, tobacco products, poor oral hygiene). Even with the best toothbrushes, natural toothpaste, and water flossers, regular wear and tear on your dazzling white teeth might eventually result in persistent surface stains.

What if only one thoot is discolored?

If only one of your teeth is discolored, it is most often the result of an oral trauma or dental treatment, i.e. endodontic therapy. In such cases, the color can be quite difficult to restore. The solution can be the placement of a veneer or a single (solo) crown. If you are not sure which of these is your best option, our dental office will provide with you with all the necessary information and consultations which are free of charge.

What does the teeth whitening procedure look like?

A teeth-whitening procedure is the removal of stains from the tooth surface in order to restore the natural color of teeth. Some types of toothpaste and mouthwashes contain whitening agents, which are cleaning substances.

The whitening process will only restore your teeth to their natural color. After the stains and dinginess are removed, your teeth will look much better than before the whitening process, but their natural color will remain the same. The bleaching process will whiten your teeth beyond their natural color.

Which approach is the best of you?

If you want a few-shade brighter and whiter smile, talk to your dentist about which whitening method is the best for you having in mind your expectations, current condition of your teeth and your lifestyle. The color of your smile is closely related to the condition of your tooth enamel. Following the procedure, you will get the guidelines about how to care for your teeth at home after the whitening treatment in order to keep your teeth white and stains-free.

In praxis whitening vs at home

Your dentist's teeth whitening procedure can brighten your teeth more quickly. Typically, the bleaching solution is significantly stronger than kits for use at home. The in-office teeth whitening treatments take about an hour and the results are visible very quickly.

More about in praxis method

High-concentration hydrogen peroxide gels are used in the bleaching process, while the gums are protected with a special gel applied before the bleaching begins. In that way the bleach does not come into contact with soft tissues. An oxidation process takes place in the patient's mouth during whitening, which is completely safe for hard tissues. During the process itself or immediately after completion, teeth sensitivity may occur, which is temporary and should not cause concern.

Is it safe?

In-office whitening is a very safe way to achieve the desired tooth shade. During the whitening process, the active substance of the bleach (carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide) in contact with the tooth releases free oxygen radicals, which penetrate the tooth through the process of osmosis and thus remove the stains. It causes the accumulated pigment that causes tooth discoloration to change or break down so that the tooth appears whiter.

Whithening at home

People who do not have time to whiten their teeth in the dental practice or they want to speed up the whitening process, can do at-home teeth whitening. There are many options for teeth bleaching at home, the most popular include: tooth whitening toothpastes, tooth whitening strips and gels, tray-based tooth bleaching systems.

Your dentist will make a mold of your teeth to create fitted mouth trays or strips to wear at night, and give you the whitening products to take home. The peroxide gel you use at home is not as strong as the peroxide gel used by a professional but you will still be supervised by your dentist all through the process. The good thing is you can see the whitening effects very soon, and you can stop the bleaching once you reach the desired shade.

Some pros and cons for at home method

Some at-home kits don't have enough whitening product in them to work. If a dental expert is not performing the whitening, it's possible that the mouthguard given will not fit properly, allowing some of the bleaching gel to leak out onto your gums and into your mouth, leading to blistering and sensitivity. The amount of whitening agent in the product will determine how long the patient needs to wear the foils during the day.

Combination of those two methods

Sometimes, a combination of these two methods is necessary in order to meet the patient’s expectations and achieve an exceptionally bright smile. Many dentists believe that professionally dispensed take-home whitening kits can produce the best results over time.

Patients can choose the intensivity and length of the treatment depending on their sensitivity, how soon they want to see the results and how long they want to wear the individual fitted mouth trays. If you are using these treatments at home, choose a product with a peroxide level in the middle of that range. If the product doesn’t irritate your mouth but doesn’t give the lightening effect you want, you can choose a higher level. If you have any questions, your dentist can help you find the whitener that best fits your needs.

Which whitening products do we use?

There are a wide variety of at-home and professional teeth whitening treatments and techniques available to lighten and brighten the color of your teeth. The products we use from a renowned brand are safe for hard dental tissues, they provide fairly long shade stability, with sensitivity-friendly ingredients, and are very easy to use. These have an almost neutral PH which does not damage the enamel and an integrated formula for significantly reduced sensitivity. Therefore, the use of additional products is rarely necessary.

Which is the best way for theet whithening?

The best and safest way to whiten your teeth is under the supervision of your dentist. If you see very expensive whitening products or a toothpaste in drugstores, be sure that they will not do what in-office whitening can do for the whiteness of your teeth.

Theet whitening with toothpaste

A whitening toothpaste can provide the impression that teeth are whiter by removing surface stains like those brought on by smoking or drinking coffee. The natural color of your teeth cannot be altered by a whitening toothpaste, nor can stains that extend below the surface of a tooth be removed.

Namely, products intended for at home treatments can cause hypersensitivity and other health issues. However, this does not mean that you should not be using at-home teeth whitening aids at all.

How long does the teeth whitening last?

The best effect of teeth whitening can last for years if you maintain good dental habits such as proper mouth and dental hygiene, and avoid dark-colored drinks and cigarettes. It is evident that the patients who had their teeth whitened significantly reduced the intake of pigments through food and drinks, and that the patients did not get back their initial teeth color.
